If you are coming back to wow, here are some good mods for world of warcraft. What are the must have mods these days? categorized in leveling, pvping, and end game raiding, of course.

Omen threat meter. I like Atlas and Atlasloot but some people like Cartographer as well. Some sort of coordinate addon (I use simplecoords). Quartz, you'd be surprised how much time you can save. Questhelper/tomtom I believe is the pair for leveling. I vaguely remember having a collection of mods that would link quest targets to coordinates on my map and even have an arrow above my toon that leads me to that direction. I think the arrow was called tomtom, with metamap for the map mod, and something else that used the quest enhancement, something that linked straight to wowhead.

Here are all the mods I use with a brief description. Some have already been mentioned.

Bongos - action bar addon, simple and highly customizable, the best one out there imo.

Cartographer - map addon, makes map movable, has coordinates, instance maps + loot lists for bosses in instances.

Recount - very detailed and useful dps meter. Keeps track of everything you could possibly think of.

Omen - threat meter.

RatingBuster - an item comparison addon that details what categories a certain item might be an upgrade or downgrade for.

Personal Sentry - I use this specifically for BGs and Arena, it populates a list of targets on screen I can click on instead of having to mouse over to target.

ItemRack - gear addon, lets me make one button gear swaps.

GoodTarget - specifically for tanking, let's me know when a target is attacking me and who in the group a target is attacking if it isn't me. A little redundant with Omen also running but makes me feel safe.

CEnemyCastBar - super awesome cooldown/spell duration addon.
